Directory of Accredited Beth Dins for Conversions

The Israeli Rabbinate only accepts conversions as valid from certain Beth Dins outside of Israel. On the 12th of December 2021, the Israeli Rabbinate published a list of Beth Dins which are recognised to perform conversions. The original document is in Hebrew. I have translated the list to English below. Please note, the original document is disorganised and has many missing details. I have done my best to organise this list but the translation does reflect the sloppiness present in the original document.

The list includes 71 Beth Dins in 47 cities in the following 16 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Russia, South Africa, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kindom and USA.

Two of the Beth Dins are trans-European Beth Dins both of which operate out of Brussels, Belgium.

At the end of the list, there are a further 14 Beth Dins who are accredited by the Beth Din of America (BDA) and the Rabbinical Council of America (RCA) and follow the Geirus Policies and Standards (GPS) protocols for conversions.

Below is the translated list organised by continent:

Biden’s inauguration occurred on January 20th, 2021, which was the 7th of Shvat. The 7th of Shvat was also February 1st, 1944. On that day, the IRGUN declared war on the British empire. It said in part:

On February 1, 1944, the Irgun plastered posters on the walls of buildings all over the country, proclaiming a revolt against British rule. It stated, among other things: TO THE JEWISH PEOPLE DEWELLING IN ZION! We are in the last stage of the world war. We face an historic decision on our future destiny. Each and every nation is now conducting its national reckoning. What are its triumphs and what were its losses? What road must it take in order to achieve its goal and fulfil its mission? Who are its friends and who its enemies? Who is the true ally and who the traitor? And who is proceeding towards the decisive battle? Sons of Israel, Hebrew youth! The armistice proclaimed at the beginning of the war has been breached by the British. The rulers of the country have chosen to disregard loyalty, concessions and sacrifice; they continue to implement their aim: the eradication of sovereign Zionism… We must draw the necessary conclusions without wavering. There can no longer be a truce between the Hebrew nation and youth and the British administration of Eretz Israel, which is betraying our brethren to Hitler. Our nation will fight this regime, fight to the end… (Quoted from ‘The Irgun, a short history, by Yehuda Lapidot Pages 56 and 57).

Judaism DOES NOT believe in coincidences. So what is its meaning? A good question that every Jew should be thinking about.

    • Neal, there are 365 days in an average year (the Jewish calendar also averages that amount over 19 years). That is not a very high number. In the thousands of years of history thousands of significant and less significant events have occurred on each date. Taking two random events and declaring that the date they occurred is indicative of a link between them can lead you to pretty much any conclusion you want. This is known as the Barnum effect.

I will give you a list of a few more events that occured on the 7th of Shvat:
      Mehola settlement was founded.
      Hamad Abu Rabia was murdered.
      Hebron Protocol was signed.

Having said that, there are days in the Jewish calendar which are known as days of joy and rejoicing and also days (such as tisha b’av) which are known to be times of tragedy. There is a long list of tragedies that occurred on Tisha B’Av. The sages teach us that the day of Tisha B’Av is a day of tragedy for each generation. One of the tragedies which occured on Tisha B’Av in our generation is the disengagement plan from Gaza in 2005 which has brought about recent events in Israel.
